Back-Mount Fiberglass/Plastic Mesh

For many years tile fabricators have mounted stone, ceramic, and glass tiles on fiberglass mesh using glue to adhere their tiles. Fiberglass offers a strong waterproof meshing medium which, with our mesh, will not stretch or deform when pulled. It is excellent for making mosaics, borders, accents, medallions, listellos, corners and other pre-assembled shapes.

Our mesh is 2.7 oz with 30 holes per square inch. It is a leno weave, is very rugged and will hold practically any size or weight tile.
Back-Mount fiberglass mesh is ideally suited for manual as well as automated application.

Applying Fiberglass Mesh

fiberglass-3If you are to apply tiles manually, begin by covering your work bench with a release paper of some sort, like waxed paper. Lay Mesh-mount fiberglass mesh on that and apply glue with roller or brush. You may want to do this in small sections so you can apply tiles before the glue dries. Be certain to apply glue to the mesh, not the tiles. Then apply the tiles to the glued mesh. You may want to assemble your tiles upside down and apply your glued mesh to the backs of the tile. Next apply some weight to assure good contact between the mesh and tile or flip it all over so the tiles press down on the mesh.

Some fabricators immerse the mesh in a tub of glue and then apply to tiles. This maximizes the amount of glue on the mesh.
Drying will depend on ambient temperature; follow the glue manufacturers instructions. Heat will accelerate drying.
